Chef's Essentials: Scott Conant
Chef Scott Conant

It's been a whirlwind few years for chef Scott Conant... opening six restaurants in three years, hosting two TV shows and launching a second cookbook, Bold Italian.

Five of Scott's restaurants are called Scarpetta, which simply means sopping up what's on the plate with a piece of bread. Award-winning Conant has made a name for himself serving accessible Italian dishes using his own unique modern twists.

Here are five of chef Scott Conant's cooking and drinking essentials.

1. My Knife...

Global Knives: I like that it's one piece. It holds an edge very well and it's very comfortable and well balanced in the hand. [buy on Amazon.com]

2. My Spoon...

Wooden Spoon: I can't imagine not having a wooden spoon. To taste the sauce, stir the sauce, or move the pasta around the pan. If you scrape stainless on stainless, that metal is going to rub off and really change the flavor.

3. My Favorite Market...

Buon Italia: for pasta and Italian foods, I love it! I've been dealing with them for 22 years now. [www.buonitalia.com]

4. My Favorite Pasta...

Pasta di Gragnano: it's from outside of Naples. I like the texture of it, I like the taste and it cooks up al dente really, really well. [buy on Amazon.com]

5. What I'm Currently Drinking...

Aperol: I start the night with Aperol on the rocks, with a touch of soda. [available at these retailers]

Bartolo Mascarello 2006 Barolo: Even though the 2006 is young, it is drinking so well. It is so good. It's a super traditional Barolo, really intense and pure. [available at these retailers]

Amaro Montenegro: I end the night with an amaro. It's assertive and it's a great digestif. It literally helps to digest. I love bitter. [available at these retailers]
