Why does it matter what you drink out of? For some, making a drink and pouring it into the appropriate vessel is all part of the ritual, part of the experience, part of the enjoyment. When you mix a drink or open a bottle of wine, there is something theatrical about pouring it into a chilled perfectly sized martini glass or wine glass.

Leonid Rath (Managing Director of Lobmeyr) believes in drinking from a glassware that provides enjoyment. He is inspired by restaurants in Japan that allow you to choose the glass from which you’ll drink your sake - to provide the most amount of pleasure from the experience.

Lobmeyr’s designs are classic, historic, and contemporary. The glassware is so delicate and ethereal feeling with an elegance and finesse of design that is so special. They are considered design artifacts and a number of Lobmeyr glassware sets are included in the MoMA in New York’s Architecture and Design collection. Included are:

  1. -Josef Hoffmann’s 1912 designed Serie “B”

- 1920 Patrician Stemware Service (no. 238)

- Adolph Loos 1931 glassware.

As you would expect of crystal of this elegance, it comes at a cost.  And while you might not be able to afford to sip a glass of wine out of Lobmeyr crystal, you can take in their brilliance at the Moss design store in Soho. There really is pleasure in enjoying something that beautiful.
