Wide wooden plank floor, wooden booths and a no-wheres-ville location, all add up to a homey, back-woods feel, in spite of the industrial neighborhood. They even have a signature cocktail called the Log Cabin, which is a clever mixture of bacon-infused bourbon with maple syrup and bitters.
The menu is a gourmet version of comfort food. Wild mushroom fondue toast was flavorful and a great way to start the meal. The home-made liverwurst came with a few pieces of dark bread, a side of beer mustard and two cornichons. Not a huge dish, but easy to split with three people.
Organic chicken pot pie had a nice flaky crust and was filled with chunks of all-natural white meat, and vegetables in a light broth. Northeast Kingdom Berkshire pork loin had a smokiness and sweetness.
Is it worth the trek if you’re not a Bushwick local? It’s actually really easy to get to from the L train. Get off at the Jefferson stop and walk one block.
