Memorial Day Hostess Gifts
Bacon Marmalade

Memorial Day weekend kicks off the official "hit up friends with summer houses" season.

We can't guarantee you'll get invited back, but we can help you out with your first impression. Here are some ideas for edible gifts made in New York, but available nationwide.

KATCHKIE FARM

Tomato Jam from Kinderhook, New York. It's the perfect mix of savory and sweet and works on everything from cheese toast to burgers. Made in small batches using organic ingredients, it has a nice subtle kick of heat. A portion of their profits go to the children's charity, The Sylvia Center. ($8)

BROOKLYN BRINE

Lavender Asparagus from Brooklyn Brine is what Chris Ronis at Northern Spy Food Co is loving right now. He calls Brooklyn Brine part of “the new guard of pickle-makers” from Greenpoint, NY. The company makes their pickles according to the season doing unusual brines with heirloom organic vegetables. ($10)

BACONMARMALADE

The pig wins again. Born out of a happy accident by New York chef Ross Hutchison, his concocted mistake is a delicious creation he describes as "salty, sweet, tangy, and meaty spreadable bacon." ($9)

HARNEY & SONS TEAS

Don't be fooled by the vintage British-style packaging, this family-run tea company was launched in 1983 out of Millerton, NY and still has a tasting room there, right on Main Street.
