Save Some Dough
'ino Panini

Bread-baking chef picks his favorite sandwich places.

If you've cooked alongside some of the top chefs in the world like Alain Ducasse, Jean-Georges Vongerichten, and Michael Anthony, chances are you've learned a thing or two. Chef Joseph Ogrodnek is showing off those skills at Anella in Greenpoint with his seasonal market cuisine.

Ogrodnek's getting a lot of ink lately for his fresh baked bread, which he makes from scratch in a terra cotta flower pot.

Chef Joseph Ogrodnek shares where he likes to eat when he has to spend his own dough... here are three of his favorites for sandwiches:

'ino

Which also serves vino. A tiny West Village wine bar with 12 different Tramezzini, a crustless triangle sandwich ($7) and 20 varieties of pressed Paninis ($11).

Azuri Cafe

This Hell's Kitchen hole-in-the-wall has a loyal following from far and wide for its falafel in a pita ($6.50). While the chickpea sandwich stands out, regulars know that the owner can be very serious, which may mean service without a smile.

Frankies Spuntino

They have two locations, one in the Lower East Side and the other in Carroll Gardens. Homey, cozy, and comfy. Get the Sicilian tuna, tomato, onion and arugula sandwich on thin-crusted Grandaisy bread ($10).
