'Liza de Guia - Food. Curated.

We like to ask the pros about subjects they know. So we sought out video storyteller Liza de Guia, founder of Food. Curated., and asked her to recommend her favorite food TV shows, online series, and documentaries.

Liza de Guia believes all good food has a story. So everyday she heads out with her video camera to find passionate food artisans from bread bakers and oyster farmers to guys raising bees on their Brooklyn roof deck.

She has no fear of showing a butcher breaking down a whole hefty cow or a guy raising rabbits for your dinning pleasure. Her one-woman food network is gaining a nice following and was nominated for a 2010 James Beard Foundation Award for Best Video Webcast.

Here are some of Liza's food for thought shows worth watching:

  • Future of Food (watch on: Amazon.com).

"A telling and investigative peek into the social and political issues surrounding industrial agriculture and how farmers' lives have been impacted. I learned so much watching this film."

  • Cooking Up A Story (online by Rebecca Gerendasy at CookingUpaStory.com).

"Really well shot and honest in their approach to food."

  • TED Talks (online at TED.com).

"I call it food for the brain. You can find a lot of inspiring talks here from great speakers about food, amongst many other things."

  • Avec Eric (airs on PBS and online at AvecEric.com).

"Chef Eric Ripert's farm to table series giving a casual glimpse into the lives of farmers/fishermen. My favorite part is how he ends each episode with a delicious seafood recipe that makes you want to start cooking ASAP!"
