5 Canned Craft Beers

The pop-top has always gotten a bad rap in the beer world. Like screw tops on wine, it just isn't a seductive opening. But now, the can is shedding its hillbilly stigma.

In fact, the can is actually better packaging for beer. It protects it from light, which is one of its major enemies and new canning technology provides a thin, food-grade polymer coated lining, which means the beer never touches metal.

We asked three experts for their craft beer in a can recommendations:

- Garrett Oliver (Brooklyn Brewery Brewmaster)

- Stephen Jeffcoat (Beer Sommelier at Luke San Antonio)

- Fred Dexheimer (Master Sommelier & Beer Afficionado).

Here are 5 craft canned beers worth trying:

Dale's Pale Ale

DALE'S PALE ALE

Brewed By: Oskar Blues in Colorado.

Notes: Hoppy nose, assertive-but-balanced flavors of pale malts and hops from start to finish.

Recipe: JoeDoe's Honey Beer cocktail recipe using Dale's Pale Ale.

Buried Hatchet Stout

BURIED HATCHET STOUT

Brewed By: Southern Star Brewing in Texas.

Notes: Nice malt, hint of chocolate, with caramel flavor notes as well.

Pikeland Pils

PIKELAND PILS

Brewed By: Sly Fox Beer in Pennsylvania.

Notes: A Northern German style Pilsner that's light in body, straw color and dry.

Snapperhead IPA

SNAPPERHEAD IPA

Brewed By: Butternuts Beer And Ale in New York.

Notes: India pale ale with a balance of dryness and drinkability. It has a sweetness and bitter hoppy finish.

True Blonde Ale

TRUE BLONDE ALE

Brewed By: Ska Brewing in Colorado.

Notes: On the lighter side, citrus flavors, and the hops aren't too over-bearing.
