Abraco means embrace in Portuguese. It’s an apt name for place that’s small enough to make you feel like you are embracing your neighbor while ordering your shot of caffeine.  This tiny coffee place is serious about its coffee, but it doesn’t take itself too seriously. They pull excellent, fully caffeinated espresso drinks using Counter Culture Coffee. The lack of space might lead you to think it’s a deterrent, but it hasn’t prevented the East Village locals from wholeheartedly embracing this place. In fact, often there’s a line spilling out onto the sidewalk.

Abraco gets its coffee cred from partner Jamie McCormick’s experience gained at Blue Bottle Coffee Company, one of the temples to coffee in San Francisco.

It is a fantastic place to just grab a quick espresso and go about your business, but you’ll be doing yourself a disservice if you ignore the food. They offer pastries such as olive oil cake, pistachio cookies, pain perdu, and savory snacks, including lil’ eggie on brioche and frittatas.

If you are in and around the East Village, you won’t be disappointed by getting your fix at Abraco.
