A year ago, we declared sherry the new black. While the briny Spanish wine had somehow become synonymous with grannies and lace doilies, those days are fading. Its fresh, complex flavors and ability to go from aperitif through digestif, sherry is finally getting its due respect.

This week Sherryfest 2012, a multi-day, city-wide celebration of all things sherry, kicks off. The event is hosted by Peter Liem, co-author (with Jesús Barquín) of the book Sherry, Manzanilla & Montilla, and Rosemary Gray, director of RS Productions NYC.

Sherry Tastings

The fest begins on Saturday, October 20th with free sherry tastings at area wine stores, including Appellation Wine & Spirits, Astor Wine & Spirits, Chambers Street Wines, Crush Wine & Spirits, Depsana, Frankly Wines. Here is the full list of locations.

Producer Dinners

From October 22nd through 24th, there are eight Producer Dinners at a few selected NYC restaurants, including The Beagle, Bar Jamon, Palo Cortado, Tia Pol, El Quinto Pino. See the full list.
