Red Hook - Brooklyn, NY

 


Owner Matt Lewis refers to his bakery/cafe as American Style. But, he is sure to emphasize, that does not mean cupcake-focused. Open since 2005, they bake everything right on the premises. Your head will be spinning trying to narrow down what to order, but the Chocolate Cloud Cookie is a good place to start. Intense chocolate gooeyness made with Valrhona chocolate, it feels like chocolate air when you bite into it. Their baked bars come in a good mix of flavors: lemon-lime, pumpkin cheesecake, and grasshopper. You may also want to try the PB Krispy Bar for its combination of chocolate, peanut butter, and crispiness.




Matt and his business partner, Renato Poliafito, left the world of advertising to open Baked and in addition to the Red Hook location, they have expanded to Charleston, South Carolina. They also have one cookbook out, Baked: New Frontiers in Baking, and will be releasing their second in January of next year called Baked: Great Explorations.


If you can’t make it to Red Hook, you can shop for their delectable goodies online.

But don’t be fooled into thinking this will cure the temptation to want to try everything.
