Prime Meats is riding the wave of the latest food and drink trends: classic cocktails; sustainable, seasonal, local meat and produce; Stumptown coffee; local beers. While there are things I’ve enjoyed on my first couple of visits, there are some initial challenges which they are planning to rectify. There are a limited number of tables and the bar area is too cramped; it’s not conducive to just propping up the bar and sipping the well-crafted cocktails. But, when you can get a table, the service is friendly and attentive, and the food enjoyable.
The menu is constructed in a way that facilitates easy sharing and ordering multiple items. The weisswurst is served in a bowl of hot water and accompanied with a soft round pretzel roll and mustard. Lovely with a beer. The strip steak while not the most tender, was cooked perfectly and had a well seasoned crust. To my taste, the herb and wild mushroom spatzle was too cheesy, but the mushrooms provided a lovely earthy character.
Another visit is needed to further explore both the cocktails and the food.
