Jerk Ramen may not be the most authentic Jamaican dish, but it’s just one example of the island fusion cuisine that chef Adam Schop is experimenting with at Miss Lily’s in New York.

They call themselves “a Caribbean oasis in Manhattan” and are living up to their claims. They have two locations, one in the East Village called Miss Lily’s 7A and the older sibling Miss Lily’s in Soho with a juice bar and DJ spinning reggae tunes.

Schop worked at restaurants in Scottsdale and Chicago before heading to New York to open Nuela and then to Washington, DC to work with Stephen Starr at Le Diplomat. The three owners have combined Caribbean and nightclub cred. Paul Salmon owns the Rockhouse Hotel in Jamaica and was one of the founding partners of Joe's Pub in New York. Brothers Binn and Genc Jakupi have been involved in Bungalow 8, 1Oak, and The Box.

Chef Adam Schop describes what Miss Lily’s is all about and the dishes he’s creating.

Miss Lily’s & Miss Lily’s 7A is all about: spicy food, a great vibe, and feeling good.

My favorite dish here is: jerk chicken because it represents the classic quite well, but also make sure you try the grilled mackerel with coconut rundown and charred kale.

The biggest misconception about Caribbean food is: too spicy!

The biggest learning curve for me about cooking Jamaican food was using: using Scotch bonnet chili peppers.

Most unusual dish you want to put on your menu but have resisted? We have no boundaries in our cooking, if it tastes great we try to expose our guests to it.
