Inside Montreal
Montreal

Montreal kicks into high gear in June with two of its most popular annual events: the Grand Prix (June 11th) and the Jazz Festival (June 25).

If you're heading up to visit our Northern neighbors, we've got the local lowdown on where to eat from Le Club Chasse Et Peche co-owners Hubert Marsolais and chef Claude Pelletier.

Le Club Chasse Et Peche means Hunting and Fishing Club in English, but it's not a hangout for NRA members. It's where the "branché" (plugged-in) crowd goes to dine on a nouveau style of surf and turf.

Here's where Hubert and Claude like to dine in Montreal:

For Poutine:

  • La Banquise

The place you go for Quebec's gift to drunk food cuisine.

Lunch:

  • Wilensky's Light Lunch

Grilling bologna and mustard sandwiches for the past 78 years.

"Have a Special. Just don't ask for 'no' mustard."

  • Reservoir

An artisanal brasserie using all local ingredients.

"They make their own beer and the food is great!"

Classics:

  • Beauty's

A family-run eatery serving quintessential diner food for over 50 years.

"For breakfast and especially for the crowd."

  • Schwartz's

Montreal's oldest Hebrew delicatessen, since 1928.

"For smoked meats, touristy but we all still go."

Late Night:

  • L'Express

Serving pâté, foie gras, and steak-frites until 3am.

"Remains the place to be: classic bistro menu, huge wine list, affordable prices. It's where chefs go."

  • Leméac

Features an inexpensive night-owl menu from 10pm to midnight.

"A great bistro to top an evening with Echezeaux."

Top Picks:

  • Au Pied de Cochon

A culinary mecca for chefs all over the world.

"Unique and cutting-edge Montreality. Now a classic too."

  • Joe Beef

A neighborhood pub with a daily changing menu serving oysters, pig's ears, and foie gras.

    "Rustic finesse in Little Burgundy."
